Hello City View Families,
Please welcome Blenda Peterson ([email protected]), our new administrative assistant. We were saddened to say goodbye to Allie Klinsky as she moves on in her career, but Blenda comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience both in school settings and the nonprofit sector. We’re lucky to have her!
This Wednesday (Postponed from last Wednesday due to weather) from 5-6pm our parent group will be meeting at City View. If you would like to be on the email list for the group please reach out via email to the group at [email protected].
Mock Trial is moved to this coming Thursday in Waterloo due to the two hour delay on Friday. Good luck pretend attorneys!
Last Friday an email went out describing the dual-credit opportunities we will be offering students at the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade levels. Our belief is that we can provide support and structure for our young people to thrive in taking on these academic challenges. Kirkwood offers a wide range of Academies and concurrent courses that our students can take advantage of.
Every other Friday morning at City View, we gather for an all-school Community Circle. During this time, we celebrate wins, shout out our “City View Stand Outs”, and actively envision the community we want to be. On these Fridays, students are welcome to express themselves through free dress (think hats and pajama pants). Here are our Community Friday dates through the end of the year: March 7, March 28, April 11, April 25, May 16, May 30
City View staff and students have been working to define what it means to be an active member of the City View community. We are excited to share that City View community members are “Present, Engaged, and Kind.” Consider asking your student what this looks like for them. In the coming weeks, students can earn TRIPLE points in Class Dojo for showing off these traits.
Tuesday we have a group of students pitching our proposal to Van Meter for the funding of the City Brew Koffee Kart, City View’s student run coffee experience. Students have been hard at work organizing this entrepreneurial experience with our own Coffee Queen/Community Engagement Specialist Amanda Zhorne of Craft’d.
Friday March 14th we have a number of students sharing their work at a National History Day event at Kirkwood. This year’s theme is Rights and Responsibilities in History and student projects represent a wide range of ideas with titles including: “Women’s Rights (Not Lefts), “The Gilded Age and Progressive Era,” and “Rights and Responsibilities of Workers.” Good luck, young historians!
