Hello City View Families,
This Friday our Mock Trial team will be competing at the Hyatt Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville. Mock Trial is a simulated courtroom experience where students take on the roles of lawyers, and witnesses and they present evidence and testimony in a hypothetical legal case based on something that actually happened. Our students have been working hard preparing for this performance, wish them luck!
March is a great time to revisit our Chromebook policies! Students should always be prepared with materials needed for class, which includes having Chromebooks on hand and charged. Students who do not have a charged Chromebook will receive a minor write-up for unpreparedness. Loaners are available, but students who check out loaners more than twice per week or fail to return their loaner by the end of the school day will also receive a minor write-up for a technology violation. Students and their families are responsible for lost or damaged Chromebooks. If students need support or clarification with these policies, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
As part of our City View Academy on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, we are preparing students for internships and various community engagement projects that require significant personal responsibility. A key aspect of this preparation is ensuring that students can navigate the city bus system to transport themselves to and from various City View activities and events.
Many of our students have been assigned to select a location in Cedar Rapids and plan a round-trip route to and from City View using the city bus within a specific timeframe. We began planning last week, and students will take their trips on the morning of Thursday, March 6th. Each group consists of two to five students, and they will navigate the bus system as a team, without the physical presence of City View staff.
We have implemented precautions by identifying the routes each group is taking and their destinations, and we will maintain communication throughout this process. Our staff will also be available to assist students as needed, including picking them up or guiding them through the steps required to use the city bus effectively.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out, and we can work together to find a solution.
