City View Families,
I hope you are well! We had a busy and exciting week last week. A few highlights:
- Job Shadows – All 10th and 11th grade students had the opportunity to research and sign up for job shadows.
- Internship Readiness – All students began work on preparing for their internships. Specifically, students are working on their 1.) resume, 2.) personal statements, 3.) digital portfolios, 4.) mock interviews, 5.) ability to collaborate with others in preparation for starting their work experience. These five pieces will be requirements before we will place students in an internship. Please ask your student to see their work!
- New team member – We have hired a new building secretary, Allie Klinsky. We are excited to welcome her to our community!
A few key points of emphasis this week:
- All students are working to complete first drafts of personal statements, resumes and portfolios. Students will have time on Tuesday and Thursday to get feedback and complete. These will be requirements to begin their internship!
- Attendance. Please make sure your student is on-time and ready to learn! Attendance is very important. We appreciate all your support! We have also been made aware that there have been 7 families who have received (or continue to receive) errant attendance calls notifying them of false absences. If you are experiencing this, please reach out and we will work to remedy. This has been caused by a technical glitch and I am grateful for those families who have notified us so we can fix.
- Dress code. We are working to create a professional school environment. Given the number of visitors and public space we are located in, this is very important. Please remind you student of the following expectation:
City View is purposefully co-located in the heart of the Cedar Rapids business community at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. Students will interact daily with business and community leaders and are expected to be ready to engage with our community. Accordingly, professional dress is an expectation. During the first weeks of school, we will be developing the dress code with students. However, the following will not be permitted:
- Clothing not covering the back, chest, stomach, bottom, and private areas.
- Exposed undergarments.
- Clothing with offensive or inappropriate language, images, or logos.
- Hats, caps, and hoods worn inside the building.
- Sunglasses worn inside the building unless prescribed by a doctor.
- Slippers.
- Iowa BIG student drivers – For drivers on school permits, please remind them to follow all requirements of their permits. Only one additional person is allowed in the car.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
