Hello City View Families,
We hope you had a fantastic weekend. Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening:
Winter Formal: Last Friday’s event was a great success, filled with dancing, fun, and memorable moments for our students.
• Internships: We’re excited to see more students getting matched with local businesses and organizations. These experiences help them explore potential career paths while building real-world skills.
• Parent Meeting (February 4, 5–6pm): Please join us as we share the feedback we received from you and discuss upcoming adjustments to our program. We value your insights and look forward to collaborating on ways to enhance our model.
• Guest Speaker on Media Bias: We recently welcomed Olivia Cohen from the Gazette, who led a discussion on recognizing and navigating media bias. While some may feel the topic is complex, we believe exploring issues like these helps students develop critical thinking and informed citizenship.
Understanding Our Grading System
Calculating Performance on Individual Standards
Each standard is assessed through up to three pieces of evidence (assignments, assessments, or projects).
Student proficiency for each standard is based on the average (mean) of the top three scores.
If a standard requires fewer than three pieces of evidence, then all assigned pieces must be completed, and the grade is determined by the mean of those scores.
Any standard without the required evidence will be marked as incomplete until the work is submitted.
Calculating the Overall Course Grade
The overall course grade is the average of each individual standard’s mark for that grading period.
These marks translate to grade points:
E (Exceeds) = 4 (100%)
P (Proficient) = 3 (87.5%)
D (Developing) = 2 (75%)
I (Incomplete) = 1 (62.5%)
NE (No Evidence) = No Grade
Second Grade Option
Because we’re a competency-based school, students who receive an “I” (Incomplete) or want to improve their proficiency can continue working on the standards beyond the end of the semester.
Once they’ve met the required level of mastery, we’ll update the grade to reflect their new level of performance.
We hope this clarifies our grading system and encourages students to keep striving for excellence. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at the upcoming parent meeting!
